Here's the link to the song that I chose by Max Richter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLDvbnK_Sqk
Part A: Sensing
I listened to Max Richter’s Vivaldi, the Four Seasons: Spring 1. I decided to use a black pen to depict what I was hearing. The song includes both high pitched notes in the foreground as well as smooth ones in the background. This lead me to create smooth, curved lines, and also jagged angles.
The finished item looked like this:
Part B: Selecting
I chose a section of the drawing that looked like it had both tones of the song in it. The jagged angles, but also smooth curvature. Once I separated that section from the rest of the picture, I selected some colors that I thought reminded me of the song. I felt like using both cool and warm colors that still complemented each other made the most sense. I feel that the lighter colors stand out more as the foreground and the darker colors blend in as the background.
This part looks like this:
Part C: Perceiving
I think that my drawing does correlate well with the music, but looks different than I expected. Honestly, I turned out to like the finished product more than I thought that I would. I also really enjoyed the process immensely. It was nice to get away from a screen and turn my brain off to just focus on one thing. It was almost therapeutic for me to go back and color in the lines that I had just made. I think that the final product looks like a very nice representation of the song.
